Okay, I have a question. Has anyone ever mixed two different kinds of cubensis spores in the same syringe and gotten a noticeably different growth pattern than either of the two strains alone? About a week or so ago, I was curious to see what might happen so I ran a little experiment. I was making up a couple fresh South American and B+ syringes and I wanted to see if mixing them in a syringe and inoculating a few cakes with it would make any sort of difference in the whole process. Anyway, I inoculated a few with only B+, a few with South American and not expecting much, only a few with a combination of B+ and South American solution. All were inoc'd and PC'd under the exact same conditions, in the same batch as a matter of fact. After about 3 days the only jars that had ANY growth were the combo jars, and I realize 3 days is a very short time and began to worry about contams but I saw no green yet so I decided to let it go. Another few days goes by and these combo jars have RIGOROUS rhizomorphic growth and are almost COMPLETELY (~95%) colonized whereas the B+ and South American only jars are maybe 20 percent done tops. Why do you think this is? Are the spores competing and is one strain dominating or are they both actually growing with each other? Anyone have an experience like this? I am curious.

If within a few days you're nearing full colonization you probably have a contam. Also, cubensis "strains" are all pretty much the same. They won't compete, they'll mix and colonize just like a single spore inoc'd jar. The fruiting will appear as normal cubensis with the obvious genetic variance of MS jars.

I thought I had a contam too at first, but these jars are almost fully colonized now with what is unmistakably thick rhizomorphic cubensis mycelium. I just found it interesting that when the spores of these two "strains" were mixed together they colonized a jar waaay faster then either by themselves.

It sounds like you're growing bacteria. Mushroom mycelium won't colonize a jar from spores in a week.

Get us some pics of the cambo jars... Im willing to bet its a contam.. Like RR said, there is no way you could have colonized a jar in 7 days from spore solution...

Also as previously stated, a cube is a cube is a cube.. Aside from a few genetic mutations like PE, they are the same and you will not be able to tell the difference on the cakes once grown out what is B+ and what Cambo..

I just recently made a tub up mixed with PE and Nepal,Chitwan.. Now when it fruits it will be very easy to tell which one wanted it more as they have very different looking fruits because of the PE mutation..

Could have spores germinated in the syringe as well, but damn a day would be pretty quick even if that happened.

Alright, I'm gonna get some pics tomorrow night when I get back home. These jars are still going, consolidating right now but i"ll get some side by side pics of other jars colonized on the same day of the two strains separately and the jars where they were combined and you shall see this is no contaminant

;

I would never question anything RR says but i have had jars from spores to 100% in 8 days. The link above is some pics from thats grow it was less then a month from spores to picking fruits. But good luck either way. No one wants any type of contam. Makes me sad to trash a jar. lol

Yeah I would have trashed the jars if the growth wasn't white as snow and threadlike and coming out from a single spot (inocculation point) like i'm used to seeing with non-contaminated jars
